Step-by-step guide

Choose screenshot of your map.
Click Auto-align grid and follow the 9-click prompt.
Click Set anchor 1, make sure Lock grid is unchecked, then drag anchor 1 onto a screenshot tile vertex (corner).
Click Set anchor 2 — the farther from anchor 1 the better (e.g. opposite side of the map).
Drag anchor 2 onto its nearest screenshot tile vertex. The grid scales to match.
Paint tiles using the palette so terrain matches the screenshot (Cities, Forests, Crops, Mountains, etc.).
Switch the tool to Assign territory: click a city, then click its tiles.
Under Optimizer: allow building, tick which buildings/techs are available.
Click Find optimal markets — the best market layout appears on the map.

Tip: lock the grid once anchors are set so you don't nudge it while painting.

Click 9 tile centers arranged 3×3, in the order shown. Each adjacent pair of clicks must be exactly Spacing tiles apart along the iso axes (default 1 = adjacent tiles, as drawn).

How to use anchors

Anchors lock points on the grid so resizing pivots around them instead of the corner.

1. Click Set anchor 1, then click a tile vertex (corner) on the canvas — pick a landmark you can re-find on the screenshot, like a city corner near the top-left of your map. Now changing Tile W / Tile H pivots around this point so it stays put.

2. Click Set anchor 2 and pick a vertex far from anchor 1 (e.g. opposite corner of the map). Then click + drag near anchor 2 to scale the whole grid: anchor 1 stays fixed, the W/H ratio is preserved, and anchor 2 follows your cursor — the fastest way to match the screenshot's scale.

Use Remove to clear an anchor when you're done.

Switch to Assign territory above. Click a City tile to select it (highlighted), then click surrounding tiles to assign them to that city. Click an already-assigned tile again to revert it to auto (nearest city).

Windmill lvl = adj Farms (on Crop).
Forge lvl = adj Mines (on Ore).
Sawmill lvl = adj Lumber Huts (on Forest).
Market stars = min(Σ min(adj supplier lvl, 4), 8).
City territory = 5×5 around city (Chebyshev ≤ 2).
Ports do not feed markets in current rules.
Max 1 Market / Forge / Sawmill per city.
Territory = explicitly assigned tiles only, capped to city's 5×5.
Painting a City auto-assigns its full 5×5 (first city wins on overlap).
All techs & border growth assumed purchased.
